Laser and IPL Safety Core of Knowledge
This course provides the necessary training to ensure the safety of the client / patient and all persons present during the use of a Class 3B or 4 laser, or an Intense Pulsed Light Source, in cosmetic, medical and dental practice.
It is suitable for:
- Clinical staff performing laser or IPL treatments., including those appointed Laser Protection Supervisor
- Managers and ancillary staff requiring an overview of the safe operation of lasers and IPLs.
- Equipment sales and maintenance staff who may conduct demos or attend to equipment faults.
Accreditation
The course covers the syllabus approved by the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA) as the “Core of knowledge” required of Laser/IPL operators by the Medical Devices Agency and the Healthcare Commission.
The course syllabus includes the following topics
- Safety Legislation and Standards and
- Laser Safety Management and Risk Assessments
- Laser and IPL Characteristics
- Laser and IPL Effects on Skin and the Eye
- Laser and IPL Controls and Eyewear
Certification
The course includes a final online test and successful candidates will gain a “Certificate of Completion”.
If applicable the certificate can also be signed off by a manager who has watched the candidate complete the test themselves, and can vouch for the candidate’s identity.
