From April 2022, the new City & Guilds 3668 scheme is replacing the 3667, although the 3667 will continue to be available for learners who have already started the 3667 and wish to complete further units. There has been no significant changes to the syllabus for the unit 1 between the 3667 and the 3667 schemes, only minor updates to reflect new industry developments.

The City & Guilds 3667 Unit 1 and 3668 Unit 1 covers aspects of safety and basic telecommunications theory common to both the 3667/3668 fibre and copper units. The unit is completely theory based, with no practical skills element. The unit is assessed by means of a PC based exam which must be taken whilst invigilated by Lucid staff.

Please note, all the 3667 and 3668 units have been designed so they can be taken in any order. There is no requirement to complete unit 1 before starting unit 2, 3 or 4 – all the theory material required for the units 2, 3 and 4 are included in these units as well.

In order to gain the full 3667/3668 Level 2 Award in Communications Cabling , candidates must complete both unit 1 and at least one of units 2, 3 or 4. The main advantage of taking unit 1 and gaining the full 3667 award is that it qualifies for the ECS “Infrastructure Assistant” card.
