Advanced OTDR Testing (OA Level 3 Qualification)

This course starts with a summary of fibre optics principles and fibre attenuation, and the basic fibre tests such as connectors, continuity, insertion and return loss.

We then cover OTDR testing in more detail, including OTDR principles, setup, measurement issues, trace analysis, OTDR testing through complex networks such as PONs, network monitoring and finally OTDR specifications.

The course includes a short written exam and ongoing assessments of practical exercises. Successful trainees will gain a Level 3 Award in Advanced OTDR Testing from Open Awards, listed on the UK’s national Register of Qualifications Framework (RQF).

“The Advanced OTDR Testing course” together with the “Advanced PMD and CD Testing” gives Lucid’s  “Advanced Fibre Characterisation Engineer”  AFCE qualification.
